patients are able to go home in
4 to 6 days.

should I expect right after surgery?

You
will usually wake up with a breathing
tube in place which is removed when
you demonstrate your ability to
breathe on your own. This is within
a few hours after surgery. Generally,
you will spend one day in the intensive
care unit, followed by a few days
of recovery in a regular room.

How
long does the surgery take?

Answer:

Coronary
By-Pass Surgery generally takes
2 - 4 hours. Valve Surgery usually
takes about the same. When both
procedures are combined the time
increased to 3 - 5 hours.

often will I see the surgeon?

Your
surgeon will stop in and see you
everyday. You can also expect visits
from our talented Physician Assistants.

can I expect to return to normal
activities?

people feel fairly well by the third
week following surgery. You can
return to work within 4 to 6 weeks.

I have additional medications following

additional medication for approximately
a month. This does vary from person
to person.

Heart procedures each year. Additionally,
